Expected results

With the purpose to achieve the project main goal to promote the adoption of the "SCENE PBL working environment" for the diffusion of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) methodology within the educational and VET system, the SCENE expected results are the following:

  • production of an on line ICT based solution ("SCENE PBL working environment") for the PBL methodology practicing and scenarios construction;
  • undertaken of practical experience and delivering of a theoretical course on the PBL methodology to at least n. 48 teachers, 48 trainers and 48 headmasters/ school managers at European level;
  • promotion of the adoption of the PBL methodology as teaching method among teachers, trainers and headmasters/school managers of the European educational and VET system.

The main project outputs/ products as result of the core Work packages are the following:

  • Instructional Design Handbook (methodology)
  • Executive Project (technology)
  • Course Curriculum (course contents: both practical and theoretical)

SCENE PBL working environment which includes:

  • e-learning platform

Activities

The SCENE project Workplan includes core and cross activities to achieve SCENE goals. The core activities, directly connected to project aims, are specified in Work packages as follows:

  • DESIGN OF SCENE PBL WORKING ENVIRONMENT: designing the "SCENE PBL working environment" which is an ICT learning solution that enable and support teachers, trainers, headmasters/school managers to acquire and transfer professional skills focused on the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach (methodological/ technological design);

  • SCENE COURSE CONTENT PRODUCTION: developing of the scenarios for the practical sessions and the Learning Objects (learning material) for the SCENE e-course (course contents development);

  • SCENE WORKING ENVIRONMENT PRODUCTION: developing of a cutting edge integrated online working environment constituted by the e-learning platform, the PBL Repository and the Virtual Facilitator based on the Intelligent Agent (IA) technology (technological development);

  • EXPERIMENTATION: testing the on line "SCENE PBL working environment" through the following steps: 1) delivering of the PBL training path for teachers, trainers, headmasters/school managers through the inductive method by practicing scenarios according to each target group specific disciplines (practice) and then benefiting from the on line course on the PBL method theoretical topics (theory); 2) testing the "Virtual Facilitator" as tool which aims to guide teachers, trainers, headmasters/school managers to build the suitable scenarios for each discipline/ problem.

Cross Activities, essential to ensure quality of process and products as well as the project results promotion and exploitation, are specified in Work packages as follows:

  • MANAGEMENT: ensuring supervision and coordination of project overall activities from a managerial and administrative point of view for the whole project duration, in order to achieve the defined goals, results;
  • QUALITY AND EVALUATION PROCESS: guaranteeing an ongoing/continuous process of evaluation (assessment, monitoring, maintenance and improvement) throughout the project entire duration with the purpose to assure and high quality of both project "process" and "products";
  • DISSEMINATION: designing and undertaken of the valorization plan (focused on both dissemination and exploitation activities) in which each communication tool addresses the different kind of end-users and potential stakeholders with the purpose to make the project results/products visible to others, especially the target groups and the key-actors that can implement its use;
  • EXPLOITATION: transferring the successful results of SCENE to appropriate decision-makers in regulated local, regional, national or European systems (Mainstreaming) and convincing individual end-users to adopt and/or apply the results of SCENE project and to "pass it along" (Multiplication).

FAQ

What the PBL is?

The PBL – Problem Based Learning - is a pedagogical method where learners have the opportunities to build on prior knowledge and understanding to construct new knowledge and understanding from authentic experience. Instead of requiring that students study content knowledge and then practice context-free problems, PBL embeds students’.

Which are the main advantages of the PBL pedagogy?

Thanks to the PBL students are more engaged in their learning process as active actors. Students are allowed to confront problems full of meaning because of their real-life context. During the problem solving process, working toward a solution to the problem, they construct content knowledge and develop problem-solving skills and team, self-directed learning skills.

What are the main objectives of SCENE project?

The SCENE project aims to train and guide professionals of the educational field who want to apply the PBL pedagogy in their own classroom and so become a PBL facilitators by using an innovative ICT enabled solution: “SCENE PBL working environment”. The “SCENE PBL working environment” allows teachers and trainers to become expert in PBL thanks to a structured training path that includes an on line course (practical and theoretical) and a “virtual facilitator” that aims to support users in applying immediately in their own classroom what they have just learned on the PBL approach.

Who are the SCENE project beneficiaries /target groups?

The SCENE project target groups are the following:

  1. Teachers (formal education/secondary schools)
  2. Trainers (continuous training/vocational training agencies)
  3. Headmasters / school managers (formal education/continuous training)

What is a “Virtual Facilitator”?

A Virtual Facilitator is a “virtual” assistance available on line within the “SCENE PBL working environment” who can guide users personally in selecting and designing problem scenarios, as well as in applying the PBL with their students.

Can I learn the PBL pedagogy and apply it in my classroom and how?

Yes you can, by taking part to the SCENE project training path. The participation in the project is FREE. For further information write us: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Can I sign in the project and what are the main advantages I can get signing it in?

Sign in the project filling in the exploitation form by clicking “the pencil” from the SCENE web site “home page". You will receive information on the project progress thanks tp the project e.Newsletter.

Target groups

SCENE project answers to the Lifelong Learning "transversal" Programme by developing an innovative learning methodology based on ICT tools for the professionals of the educational and VET system, in particular addressed to three different target groups:

  1. Teachers (formal education/secondary schools)
  2. Trainers (continuous training/vocational training agencies)
  3. Headmasters / school managers (formal education/continuous training)

Throughout the project teachers, trainers and headmasters/ school leaders have the opportunity to practice the PBL methodology through an ICT based solution - "SCENE PBL working environment" - each one according to their own specific discipline. Thus, for each target group the topics identified (they experienced during the project) are the following:

  1. Teachers = science
  2. Trainers = business studies (marketing/sales), ICT and languages
  3. Headmasters / school managers = management and leadership
